We've learned that one of the biggest challenges your classifieds business will face is location…

Why? Well, it's surprising how often people:

• Think of distant places as being close, or of nearby places as being very, very far away.
• I don't actually know their nearby locations by name.
• I have no idea about routes or directions.
• I don't know the correct spelling!

And yet, they have a very strong preference for the areas or distances they are willing to look at!

Furthermore, some names are very common. There are 38 places in the United States called Arlington, 33 places called Springfield, and 88 different Washingtons, so you can see the potential problem!

WP Adverts Maps and Locations (MAL) completely solves ALL location problems .

It allows hierarchical lists of locations (e.g., Country > State > City) both when creating an ad and when searching by location.

This means no more misspelled location names and that visitors will always get accurate search results. The result is a more user-friendly and professional website that both sellers and buyers love to use.

With the WP Adverts Maps and Locations extension you can

• Allow users to search for ads by location using SEO-optimized URLs (such as http://example.com/location/new-york/)
• Do you use SEO plugins (e.g., Yoast SEO)? Then you can fill in the title and meta description to make your listings even more SEO-friendly.
• Displays Google Maps on every listing details page; the location on the map can be as precise as an exact street address.
• Use the shortcode [adverts_mal_map] to display a map with all active classified ads. The map comes with keyword and location filters that allow visitors to quickly filter ads.
• Integration with the Custom Fields plugin will allow you to customize the search form in [adverts_mal_map] using the simple drag-and-drop editor.
• Integration with the Authors extension; the registration and profile editing forms use this same system, so visitors can search for authors by location.
• Allow your visitors to search by radius/distance

How WP Adverts Maps and Locations work

1. Install and activate the WP Adverts Maps and Locations plugin from the wp-admin / Plugins panel on your site.
2. Go to wp-admin / Classifieds / Options / Maps and Locations panel to configure the plugin
3. Create a hierarchical database of locations or use the Google Places API and allow users to populate the database for you (when posting ads).
4. Geotag each location: Use a simple drag-and-drop interface to mark an exact spot on Google Maps. I'm not sure if this should be here or in the list above.
5. From the wp-admin panel / Classifieds / Locations you can complete the Locations database (unless you plan to use the Google Places API and allow users to complete it themselves).
6. Your location field in the form [adverts_add] will be replaced with either Google Places autocomplete OR a simple dropdown field (depending on your selection in the settings)
7. The location field in [adverts_list] will be replaced with either a multi-select field or an autocomplete entry (at your discretion) and will allow searching by multiple locations.
8. On the listing details pages you should see the "show on map" link, which will slide down on the map to help visualize the location.
